Reality Television:Hiatus

posted by RF Club, Group AdministratorThursday, September 29th 2011 @ 7:45 PM (not yet rated)

Hello Reality Television Fans!

Mostly this message is geared towards Real Housewives Fans and Fans of the Bravo network.  Many on you have stopped by this blog for a while now and even though you don't leave comments here you do choose to interact with me on Twitter.   I have enjoyed many of those 140 character conversations.

Unfortunately, I have hit a little bit of a wall with The Real Housewives and the Bravo Network.  It is clear that the network has shifted gears and they are going in a more scripted direction.

Now, do I believe that they were always totally providing the viewers with REALITY?  NO!  But, I do feel that there has been a bigger shift to more scripting?  Yes!

Oh, and to make matters worse, a huge shift to the darker side of humanity.

In addition, this has led to some unpleasant Fan interaction and quite frankly I don't even get on my Twitter account all that often.  Why?  Because I mostly followed Fans and before I knew it I was watching Fans tweeting horrible tweets to each other and to the Reality Stars themselves.  Listen, I have no problem when you are watching an episode with you tweeting and discussing that episode, even tweeting your honest thoughts of the moment to the Reality Star!

But, I must admit I have found some Tweeters to be beyond disturbing!  These Tweeters Tweet constant negative remarks to Reality Stars they have a strong dislike for and then 'love and light' tweets to the Reality Stars that they love. These Tweeters will badger some Reality Stars and about events that happened years ago at this point.  I find it funny that WE as humans want to be forgiven for our mistakes, mishaps or inappropriate moments in life and yet because they have deemed a REALITY STAR horrid and this Star has been caught on tape doing things not so nice they are hounded constantly for it.

Remeber these shows are edited and are a snapshot of someone's life.  Would you really want your life seen as a snapshot?  Are you that perfect?  Hell, look at some of your tweets?  If someone only pulled your Negative tweets to prove you were a negative person would you not get upset and feel they were not showing you as a person?

For instance, I wrote a glaring reaction to Tamra Barney's tub scene but I am now over it.  Yes, it made a lasting impression on me but if Tamra realized it was a mistake and never did another scene like that then more power to her.  I would never continue to berate her for one incident over and over again.  I found it to be in poor taste as a mother but hopefully she learned from it and she moves on.  In addition, I would never tweet her repeatedly about the incident.

Even Worse, it seems that The Fans seem to try to outwit each other and once one starts on a Reality Star then they all start with the Tweeting to see who can come up with the funniest, cutest or most disparaging remark.  It is like a mob mentality.

I guess I am trying to say that not ONE PERSON or ONE TWEETER has offended me but I needed to step away from it all.  In addition, I was afraid I was part of the problem and the only solution then is for me to stop.

Honestly, I wanted to just enjoy the Reality Shows, talk about THE EPISODES as they AIRED but I never intended on wishing any ONE REALITY STAR ILL WILL.

I do not HATE any REALITY STAR but I Don't LOVE ONE Either.  I have often joked that Bethenny Frankel could get on Twitter and suggest people jump off the Brooklyn Bridge because it is a great workout and by golly people would.  That scares me.  I think Bethenny has done a great job BRANDING herself and she took it all the way to the bank and AMERICANS seem to base all their worship on money so for some reason this has made her TOPS in many peoples eyes but I do hope she doesn't turn out to be a Tiger Woods!

Like I said, I don't LOVE any of them and at times Bethenny Frankel annoys me as much as Tamra Barney!  Why?  Because she is as human as they all are and human beings come with FRAILTIES and that means they are going to rub you the wrong way at some point!

Lastly, everything has gone too dark for me.  The shows and the fans.  What use to be light and fun and yes, sometimes a little judging has turned to very dark television and the fans are getting very emotional with their following and their remarks and they refuse to let their judgements go.

I am a firm believer in Freedom of Speech but I always caution people to remember that their words do hurt!  I wonder how some of these people who wield such venom would handle it if it came flying right back at them? Imagine if these same TWEETERS had to deal with the daily onslaught of dislike over and over and over again?  The question is why all the venom?  Just because these Reality Stars dared to show their humanness on television they deserve to be berated over and over and over again?  Sorry, I don't agree with such practices.

Anyway, I needed to take a hiatus from it all.  Bravo has gone too dark and it is clearly scripted and BAD SCRIPTING at that! I have not decided if I am going to watch other Reality Shows?  I am currently watching SCRIPTED Television again and I am enjoying it very, very much!  Actors are always better than Reality Stars in a Bad Scripted Reality Show.   I mean, C'mon, I can't watch The Rachel Zoe Project that is PURE TORTURE!!

So, if you are looking for some good television try THE RINGER!!  That is great new show!! Thanks for listening to me vent.  I have enjoyed many of you on Tweeter and personally I think many of us would be happier away from the negative Bravo Television viewing.  Here is to finding your HAPPY AGAIN!!
