The Real Housewives of Orange County was all over the place on Sunday. I felt like we got a bunch of clipped scenes to set us up for 'more to come' along with a mixture of the women ' living their lives' scenes. Let me see if I can explain. Typically, there is an ebb and flow on the Housewives, either a theme or they follow each housewife and document their 'reality' of the moment. I think the problem with the shows in general are that some husbands are backing away from filming and ex-husbands are not allowing their children to be filmed which cuts out a lot of film time for the women. In addition, I think Bravo wants to save money and do some combination filming which means they are promoting the women to attend dinners, lunches, events and whatever is possible together. Okay, let's get 'talking' about Easter Sunday's episode!
The opening scene is Gretchen and Slade!
Slade has planned a birthday surprise and Gretchen starts it off with a little bitching. Well, actually, she starts it off with complimenting Slade for being an AMAZING artist but when Slade says, "It is a random way to make money and not consistent." Well, that seems to piss Gretchen off. Personally, I go back and forth with Slade. I know, I know, he SEEMS like total slime but I know many people who TRULY got hurt with the housing crash. I had friends and relatives that were riding high in the mortgage business and they had to file bankruptcy, they lost their homes and several of them are struggling to make ends meet now all because of the housing crash years ago . They have taken on odd jobs AND they STILL don't have steady jobs. Many did not have higher education and just like SLADE they are older and they just can't get or find WORK. Now, I think it is TIME for SLADE to DO SOMETHING and I understand Gretchen's frustration but nagging won't work either. In addition, I think the painting is a release for Slade and Gretchen needs to let him find his way with the painting.
Vicki invites Alexis over for a glass of wine to clear the air!
Clearing the air?? Who thinks that worked? LOL! So, they begin by kind of sort of arguing over the mace. Alexis says, "Listen, Vicki just say no, it was wrong, you knew it, say no" Vicki, interjects, "Listen, it was wrong but I am always gonna side with Tamra and you will always side with Gretchen but yeah, the mace was a bit much and I gave it to Briana so let's just move forward." Alexis offers this negotiation, "Vicki, if I upset you just call me and I will apologize or explain but don't say it behind my back." Vicki thinks that sounds like a good plan and they decide to move on but of course we have to break away to hear about Alexis and her grand plan of being a good Christian everyday and her asking herself 'What would Jesus do?'. I think this is where Alexis gets herself in trouble with the fans. Who doesn't try to be a good person everyday??
Anyway, Alexis moves onto trying to impress Vicki with her new business adventure. Vicki should have just listened. They are not friends. At that point Alexis did not want grilled and Vicki should not have attacked. If you are trying to build a bridge then keep your mouth shut and be supportive. Vicki was brutal behind Alexis' back in her interviews. The final dig came when Vicki called Alexis BARBIE. Yes, Alexis is beautiful but it did not come out as a compliment and it was not lost on Alexis. Lastly, I am not sure why people feel the need to squash others dreams. Do you think every designer went to school?? Look it up, they didn't. Vicki had a lot of valid points BUT she is not the person to make them to Alexis, they have no relationship and Vicki has no clue about Alexis' partner. I guess Vicki tried very hard to rebound at the end by saying she would attend the mini debut of the clothes and I will give her kudos for that move but overall Vicki should have smiled and kept her mouth shut!!! Okay, I know, that is funny I am 'talking' about Vicki and that is just not in her nature LOL!
Back to Gretchen's Birthday Surprise!
The art studio! Gretchen is miserable at the art studio, just miserable!! They are eating and things go downhill when Slade presents her with a wrapped box. It turns out to be white painter paints. Gretchen is dying but I must admit Gretchen looked cute in those painter paints eventhough she was beyond pissed. Then, Slade says, "We are going to paint" and Out pops Slade's friend, Daniel Maltzman, who is an artist and he is there to give them pointers! Of course, Gretchen, her vain self is pissed that she is meeting Daniel in white painter paints and a tank top AND NOT HER PRETTY LITTLE DRESS! See, it is becoming crystal clear that Gretchen must be totally PRIMPED when meeting anyone! Oh, and have you noticed Gretchen is ALWAYS looking FABULOUS for filming?? Now, that is REALITY because we all walk around looking FABULOUS all day, everyday, right???
Back to 'painting class' LOL. So, Daniel gives them some pointers and Gretchen does some 'feathering' on the canvas as Slade watches and comments on how Gretchen shakes her ass when she 'feathers'. In the meantime we get a cutaway to Gretchen's interview and she is very funny saying, "Yeah, I was thinking, I would maybe roll around in the paint and my top would come off and then there would be two nipple marks on the canvas but no." I must admit I do get a kick out of Gretchen's humor. So, they finish the little painting and Slade says, "That's my present to you!" Gretchen's face drops! Just drops! We, the viewers, get another cutaway and Gretchen says, "Jewelry um Painting?" and she does the little hand thing women do when weighing options like a scale and then Gretchen answers, "Yeah, Jewelry would have been better." At that point, we, the viewers, are brought back to the surprise birthday party where the real gift is revealed! Daniel Maltzman has painted a huge ass portrait of Gretchen. Gretchen loves it and Slade takes all the credit for having such a great friend who is willing to do such a favor. Yeah, right! Nope, we now know that in order for Slade to get the portrait from the artist for free he had to plan the surprise birthday party at Daniel's studio do a little artist 'class' and then a big reveal to make sure Bravo filmed it! BINGO!!! See,That is how Slade got that portrait for free!!!
Peggy Plans Annual Dinner Party
Peggy and her husband, Mike go to Border Grill where Doug Rausenberger, the Regional Manager greets and sits them and then says, "I am going to go get Susan". The reason I took the time to point this out is because why would the REGIONAL MANAGER take the time to greet and sit people meeting the chef to plan a party??? Oh, yeah, for two seconds of television time. Gosh, people love to be on television, it just cracks me up. Typically, when you plan a party the hostess or whoever is around greets you. Usually, the bigwigs are tooooooo busy to greet and sit you LOL! Oh, and CATCH THE NAME OF THE RESTAURANT, and REMEMBER it is CALIFORNIA so put the TWO TOGETHER! Now, What do YOU think the cuisine is????
Peggy and Mike have an annual dinner party and the year that Bravo is filming Peggy seems to want to go Bigger and Better and she has no clue why, she just felt like it??? Does Peggy think we, the viewers, are STUPID??? So, they decide to hire a celebrity chef, Susan Feniger, the co-chef/Owner of Border Grill! Oh and the FUN begins (I know you just read that line with sarcasm, right???)
Peggy and Mike begin discussing want they want for their party. I have no problem with this, it is their party BUT research the restaurant and the chef before ENTERING the establishment. Peggy says FORMAL. Um, you could tell when you walked in BORDER GRILL is not FORMAL and typically GRILL restaurants are not FORMAL, dah??? Mike starts with we pair wine with the food. I don't thin that is a problem? You can have wine with southwestern/latin American cuisine but I guess traditionally you lean towards margaritas and such but you don't have to go that route. The bottom line these two did not RESEARCH the restaurant or the chef. HOW STUPID is THAT???? Mike then goes onto insult the chef and proclaims Mexican food is good for pool parties but if you make more Spanish it is a little more formal. WOW!!! Guess we know how MIKE feels about Mexicans, no, getting around that statement!!
If you watch the scene closely Peggy starts to become uncomfortable and she knows it is not going well. Listen, I think it is okay to not like a type of food and Peggy and Mike should have said, "Listen, we are embarrassed we didn't fully research your specialty and unfortunately this is not the cuisine we want for our dinner party. We are sure your food is awesome because we have heard nothing but the best comments about you but this just isn't going to work. Let us just cut this short and we will leave now."
I felt bad for Mike and Susan. Mike didn't like the food and Susan knew it and both felt stuck, not a fun situation for either.
In my opinion you should have what you want at your dinner party but you don't insult a chef or ask them to do what they don't specialize in.
In the end, Peggy said it all, "I don't care about the food I just wanted to impress my guests with having a celebrity chef." Oh, I think I might have changed her words slightly but we all know it is exactly what Peggy meant LOL!!!!!
Vicki and Briana!
Briana drops by to see mom after working. Vicki does what most moms do and offers to make breakfast and then the lecturing begins. Oh, wait in between she finds ice cream in the fridge and we all know Michael had one to many the night before and Oops the icecream landed on the wrong side of the fridge, too funny!! Anyway, back to the lecturing. We, the viewers heard Vicki ask Briana if she was heading to Vegas and the answer was yes so that meant Vicki had to definitely give Briana a lecture on safety. I understand how Vicki feels. I have a 23 year old and a 19 year old but there is a fine line and you have to know when to lecture and give advice and when not to AND when to stop. I usually, say, be careful add a few pieces of advice and stop. Maybe, when they are leaving drop a few more pieces and they still roll their eyes but I definitely do not go on a barrage or they tune you out or they make a plan to get even!
Who loved the boyfriend discussion?? Now, that was funny! I laughed hard when Vicki said, " I will back off" YEAH RIGHT!!! I know, we, the viewers can totally understand why Briana is not bringing the Fireman home yet!!! Oh, and how many of you are waiting for Vicki's house to go up in flames now??? I know funny but I am telling you that woman is crazy and will do anything to impose on her kids, you know I am joking right? The entire scene cracked me up and yet I felt for Briana but it is a hard tight rope for parents. We will always worry and Briana going off to Vegas was probably KILLING Vicki, I mean roofies and tattoos and drinking and sex and just SIN CITY, yikes!!!! I must admit I did feel bad for Briana when she said, "You snoop" that is not good. There is a difference between natural worrying and advice but you need boundaries and snooping is UNCOOL. Vicki might find that her smothering love will end up pushing her kids away.
Tamra and Peggy Modeling!
Marisa Kenson, an Orange County Fashion Designer asks Tamra and Peggy to model in her upcoming fashion show. Smart fashion designer. Peggy and Tamra are not models and clearly they are too old to model but what an opportunity for a local designer to get exposure. It is a smart business move. Who cares if they are not professionals they HAVE CAMERAS!!!
So, the women go to Marisa's store to get instructions on the upcoming event. The designer, Marisa does a cute little play on reality. She explains that the women will have an alter ego. I guess when they come out there will be a runway look, which they will be wearing and then their counterpart will be wearing the 'reality' look. Peggy for some reason asks for more explanation which I think was a waste of time but whatever.
Tamra comes out in her 'runway' look and is more than willing to show off her toosh but then shies away from walking??? Very weird what these HOUSEWIVES get embarrassed to do?? Body shots, no problem but walking like a runway model in a store, now that totally embarrassed Tamra. I was baffled but then again Tamra wasn't DRUNK at the store!! Then, Peggy comes out and she looks like she has big balloons in her top although I must admit Tamra said it best, "Peggy's new titties are eeeeenorrrrmous, they look like huge floatation devices." Unfortunately, Tamra doesn't get to oogle over them long because believe it or not a BIGGER distraction enters the room! Jeana Keough!!
In Tamra's cutaway she informs us that Jeana is GREAT friends with Simon. Divorce is always Yucky. Can't be friends with both parties. Unfortunately, friends have to eventually pick sides and it is not surprising at all that Jeana sided with Simon.
Okay let's chit chat about Jeana for a moment, Jeana looks great in my opinion. Must admit I am not sure what a SMALL SIX is? But, Jeana definitely looks good. You can tell she has lost weight and she looks a lot better! I get that Tamra doesn't like her and I understand why, Jeana took Simon's side in a bitter, nasty divorce. Therefore, Tamra saying that Jeana looks great but has a "nasty soul" makes total sense.
One thing I did notice was the designer was all business which I liked. I got the impression the fashion show was for real and a serious deal for her. Marisa Kenson wanted her show to go well and therefore Marisa was emphasizing the importance of coming to rehearsal. She said, "Bring the kids and I will watch them." Tamra retorts, "Not a problem, my ex has them." Now, I didn't think that was a big deal. Why Jeana thought it was such a slight, I have no idea?? I think Tamra could have said "Simon has them or they are with their father." It does sound a little nicer but the divorce was nasty. Plain and simple. What Tamra doesn't realize is she is SHOWING her true colors. A mother trying to make it easier for her children would be a little softer about the father and a little more open with communication, like telling the father she was in Spain. The point, the Barney divorce was nasty and Tamra is playing games with Simon. She can't put it all on Simon. Unfortunately, I disagree with Tamra's tactics. I can understand her anger and bitterness. I am sure divorce sucks but Once you have kids with a man you have to do your best to have communication with the father and you don't take trips and leave him in the dark. Their are certain rights you give up once you become a mom. My children always come first, ALWAYS!!!
In all honesty, I am not sure Tamra's kids come first in her life, that is just my take on Tamra!
Now, the conversation with Tamra and Jeana, yeah, I will side with Tamra. I don't blame her for treading lightly. If Tamra knows that Jeana has remained friendly with Simon and it is obvious that Simon and Tamra are not amicable then Tamra had a right to feel that Jeana was snooping and it did seem like she was, especially about Eddie. I think the conversation about the children was genuine. I think Jeana has always been interested in the women and their kids. Tamra does think all her little lines are witty and cute but the the "I don't trust her as far as I can throw her and God knows that wouldn't be very far." Well, that was just really mean. Tamra is a mean girl. Some stuff you just don't say, you might think it but you don't say it!
Alexis and Designing!
Alexis has a meeting with Tal, her designing partner, to discuss the Alexis Couture hangtags and their design. Alexis informs her there is going to be a photo on each tag of Alexis with a heart or something cute because you know that is Alexis. Right before that we, the viewers, watched a cutaway of Alexis telling us how she has "Good Fashion Taste" and everyone tells her this and that is why she decided to do a dress line. Must admit that is a big leap but it is her dream!! So, back to the hangtags. Alexis says they are doing a photoshoot of the hangtags but I think she meant the dresses because she then goes onto to say the dresses MUST BE PERFECT for the shoot. I must admit I got a little lost in this scene but then again not nearly as confused as Alexis when she tried to define COUTURE. Her definition went something like this, "Couture is a term put on a design, a dress, if it's, um, I guess ,super rich." Alexis stuttered through the definition and she tried to use her hands to explain it as she was defining? Of course, I looked it up but I thought I kind of sort of knew and I was right, couture is 'made to order', or custom made. It doesn't always have to be a one of a kind but the dress should fit you like a glove because it should be made according to the woman's measurements. Therefore, Alexis should make samples and then women should order the dress according to their own measurements and then the dress is created. In other words, You don't order a size 6!
Of course the big moment in the scene was the cutting off of the sleeves, oh, I felt so sorry for Tal, the designer. All her hard work and there is Alexis snipping away like it was nothing. Not sure if that was the CHRISTIAN move??? But, one can only TRY to be a good Christian! Boy, did Alexis miss the mark on that move! She forgot about Tal's feelings at that moment! But, I think she made it up to her because she is wearing that dress in the OPENING of the show and it has the SLEEVES, they are not as exaggerated so it looks like the ladies compromised, right??? Meaning, Alexis isn't quite the BOSS she claims or she is a more giving boss LOL. I bet Alexis will go with being a more understanding, giving and compromising boss as an explanation, sounds good, right??
Runway Practice!
Peggy shows up to rehearse for the fashion show, late, and at this point we find out that Peggy is going to host because Marisa was informed of Peggy's previous hosting career. I guess Jeana had already been there and ran through the program. Therefore, Peggy who had some 'awesome' ideas was gonna have to relay it to Jeanna and Tamra, who didn't show up at rehearsal because the kids were no longer with her EX?
In this scene Peggy finally made her first attempt in a cutaway to say something about another housewife, Tamra but it was tame and boring. Oh, wait because it was Tamra. Tamra didn't show up to rehearsal and Peggy gently says Tamra should have come to rehearsal. BUT notice Peggy had no problem bashing on Jeana,hmmm, wonder why?? Peggy is no idiot. Peggy knows that Jeana is not well liked by Tamra and Vicki and she has been off the show long enough therefore Peggy used Jeana to do 'pot shots'. Peggy seemed to think Jeana was trying to 'throw her off her game' and was 'sizing' her up. Personally, I think Jeana was being Jeana. Chit Chatting while they were getting ready and being a little nosy about the newest housewife and that was the extent of it for Jeana!
Of course, Tamra comes late, totally unprepared and then wants babied about walking. Tamra is that pain in the ass girl that doesn't do what is asked and then wants everyone to tell her she will be great. In the end, Tamra looked at her "Eddie" and then she did a STRIPPERS walk. She made a spectacle of herself. Nothing new! I mean really, is anyone surprised by Tamra's solution??
I am not sure what the hell Peggy did?? Her hosting seemed fine, her walk??? Yikes! If you ask me, Jeana did the best walk. The idea is to walk the walk and let the clothes shine! Oh, well, the designer just wanted it to air and it did!! Tamra and Peggy had their two little studs their to tell them they were great and hey, that is what our guys are suppose to do so I don't fault them.
I must say, I am over Tamra and Eddie. I think that Tamra is acting like a whore to get even with Simon and I hope he is not watching but most of all I hope ALL her children are not watching. Ryan her oldest must be dying by her behavior. No child wants to watch their mom be sexy and lovey dovey all over their guy. I don't care how open and modern you are!
Briana and Vegas!
Oh, poor Vicki! Briana didn't do anything to GOD AWFUL horrible that WE VIEWED LOL but I am sure that Vicki did not have fun watching this quick little Vegas Scene! Briana looked like she did what any 23 year old would do in Vegas and we will leave it at that! Oh, no, I have to add, Vicki calling at the end, well now that was good!
Gretchen's Mammoth Portrait
Putting it in the bathroom LOL!! I did laugh when Slade said, "My princess, my throne." In addition, I liked that Gretchen seemed genuinely upset that the portrait was soooo large. She admitted it was beautiful but she was like, "People are going to be like 'she really likes herself'" Gretchen understood that the portrait was way out of proportion and she was unsure how to gracefully handle not hanging it.
Fernanda Working Out!
I found this scene incredibly odd and out of place, how about you? Not sure why Lynne was pulled into it since she is off the show . I guess this was used to wrap up the Lynne Curtin Story?? I guess it was nice to let Lynne act as if she exited the show?? Do you agree with me? You know, that Bravo was giving Lynne Curtin a nice close to her story and letting her save face?? Oh, well, enough about Lynne, I am think this was also the setup for Fernanda not staying on as a housewife too?? We find out the Tamra and Fernanda have a fallout and most likely a misunderstanding with each other. Tamra believes Fernanda thought there was more to their relationship than just a friendship! Well dah! Tamra flirts with her and then Fernanda informs us that they had A KISS. Fine, it was ONE KISS but it seems that since the kiss, Tamra divorced, hung out more and more with Fernanda and continued to heavily flirt. In fairness to Fernanda I think she thought Tamra might be switching sides and then Tamra found EDDIE and Fernanda knew it wasn't going to happen but then Tamra dumped her as a friend too.
Tamra is just your typical MEAN BITCH. She takes and takes and takes. Then, when Tamra doesn't NEED you anymore she dumps your ass and you are swinging in the wind.
I must admit I did love Lynne in the scene because she still is our LOVEABLE, smoke a doobie Lynne. How great was it when she said, "Tamra likes guys" or "maybe it was just a friend kiss?" I thought Fernanda was going to slap her for that statement.
We all knew exactly how Fernanda felt at the moment but it was such a Lynne comment LOL. And then at the end she makes a little sourpuss face like, "Should I go after Fernanda and support her or do I stay with the cameras or wait, do I support Fernanda's EX???" Hey Lynne, don't feel so bad, I think we, the viewers, were a tad baffled by the scene too. Oh, and what a horrible scene to end the show with, I needed another scene to make it feel right. I don't know, I wish they had put that scene more in the middle.
