Bethenny Ever After: Focusing on the Outer You!

posted by RF Club, Group AdministratorWednesday, March 9th 2011 @ 12:30 AM (not yet rated)

Bethenny Ever After!

Okay, I promise for all you Bethenny die hard  fans who I warn not read my posts and you do anyway this will be my last week to say this, Bethenny Ever After should be a half hour! I do like Bethenny but in smaller doses.  That is why I enjoyed her on The Real Housewives of New York City.  In addition, I hope no other housewives get a spin off.  It is too hard to stomach one of them for an hour.(LOL) Once again, I  like my reality television, my guilty pleasure, but I prefer the housewives to come in small bits!

So, this episode seemed to be filled with themes.  The recurring theme of the in-laws.  Which I think will be carried through the season.  Bethenny the benefactor.  And, success/fame!  Oh, and the recurring theme of Bethenny struggling to deal with having it all, which is kind of tied to success/fame.  I don't know about you guys but at some parts I was thinking, "Wow, how sweet, Bethenny really cares."  Then, at  other parts I was thinking, "Wow, am I suppose to feel sorry for them?  Yeah, that is not gonna happen."

Okay, so I am going to admit I only have watched the show once, and I did not DVR it, so I can't check the order of things and get my quotes exactly right.  I am just gonna right this post on the fly!

I think Bethenny Ever After opened with Bethenny getting ready for some event.   A jeweler came over while Bethenny was getting her hair done.  Bethenny referred to him as the "gay the jeweler" and how wonderful it was that she had someone like him at her finger tips.  God, I am sick of the housewives and their gay pets.  I mean, if the jeweler had been straight, would she had felt the need to inform us of his sexuality?  I think I am sensitive because my son is gay.  AND, believe it or not, he can't stand the gays on Bravo and really that is exactly how he puts it.  He says, " I swear Bravo and the Housewives do their damnedest to keep the old stereotype alive.   If you met my son, you would never know he was gay and as he says, "Do you walk around and announce your sexuality?"  My son is not ashamed of being gay, he is ashamed of the old stereotype and he can't stand the Housewives and  he says, "the sad thing is they think they are doing 'us' (meaning the gays) a favor and I wish they would stop helping." and then he laughs.    Okay, so that rant was against all of Bravo, not just poor Bethenny (LOL).
So, then out comes grumpy Jason.   He comes out of the bedroom where he was trying to sleep to bitch about Bethenny's life and essentially their lives.  I am not sure if things are just getting worse with her growing fame or if this is one of their staged moments for us to understand that at times what others see as their life being great they have to endure as a hardship.  I was also confused because hasn't Jason been dealing with it for awhile now??  Typically, you discuss what sets you off when you begin to have an argument but they didn't really follow through they instead they moved into funny, the jeans discussion and that was funny.  I did enjoy Bethenny trying to explain to Jason that it was time to get new jeans!!!

The show continued with the momentum of focusing on Bethenny and dealing with fame.  Facing all the lights, wow!!!  Jason just wanting to close the door and dance because it was their night out.  I get it.  They have to deal with fame.  Not sure it is at the same level that some others deal with it but none the less they are dealing with paparazzi and Jason stating that success isn't easy and then Bethenny starting to whimper that it is hard and she is in a storm.  I am sorry I am just not feeling the pity party.  Listen, success does come with a price BUT you don't have to pay the price because you can make your choice as to what you label success.  Bethenny claimed she would stop if he just said the word, yeah, I don't think so and he knows it.  Bethenny loves it AND there is nothing wrong with that but the 'woe is me' and 'life is hard' well, is a little hard for me to swallow.

AND, Bethenny knows that so she shows us her softer side.  The giving Julie a raise!!  The raise is earned.  To me that is what a boss is suppose to do.  It is not a gift or a big deal.  You have a review and you get a raise.  It is nice that she values and trusts Julie.  Of course, being in the business Bethenny was able to pull strings and have Julie get a makeover for Rachel Ray!!  That was sweet.  It goes with their lives but it is sad when you think you have made it and you are moving up because you are wearing Prada shoes.  I know Bethenny truly believes she is empowering women but I disagree.  Bethenny is still perpetuating that it is all about a woman's look.  I want women to know that a haircut, makeup and expensive clothes are not what build your self esteem.  It is a person's heart, mind and soul that creates their self esteem.  Oh, why do we still look to the outside to fix the inside?  Ugh!  But, Bethenny was trying to do the right thing.  Just like she thinks she is going to fix Nick the nerd.  Oh, how I disagree with Bethenny on Nick.  I think he might be a great guy and she might find that he was a great guy without being exposed to her fame.  I know that is hard for Bethenny to understand.  Is Bethenny going to start trying to find all the kids who were bullied and make them famous because that fixes everything??  Once again, her heart is in the right place but it came off wrong.  I guess that is the teacher in me seeing a person trying to do a quick fix for a large problem.   Oh, back to the makeover.  Julie looked like shit, Rachel Ray's show did a crappy job.  Oh, I can't forget to mention Gina, the baby nurse, I  loved  Gina going after the sound guy, way too funny and what about her coming out in her towel?  I was cracking up!!

Bethenny and Jason going out for drinks.  I did not like the role playing.  I think that is soooooo silly and those scenes have been done in movies over and over.  Way staged, c'mon please tell me you guys know that was staged.  Of course, they have to talk about something because they are being filmed so we get the in-law talk, AGAIN.  Listen, Bethenny is lucky but I get her point too.  Jason is a little bit of a mama's boy.  The problem, Bethenny is going to have to come to terms with it and she is going to have to let Jason take Bryn alone at times to give her a break.  On the other hand, Jason is going to have to set up some boundaries with his parents.

Overall, I like Bethenny Ever After.  I probably won't watch every episode.  It is a little repetitive and an hour of Bethenny is a bit much but it is funny, sweet and has it's moments.  I think the problem with Bethenny Ever After is there is nothing to break up the personal stuff, like on The Rachel Zoe Project.  With that show we get fashions shoots or on Flipping Out we get moments of actual work.  Bethenny Ever After is all BETHENNY and it is too much.  The in-law conversation is already way old and we are two episodes in.  Rachel Zoe can get away with one theme because her personal is not the overall focus.  I do hope we get some other topics down the road.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

So what was your favorite part of the show?
