 | Bethenny Frankel: Wanting an end to "Ever After"posted by RF Club, Group AdministratorMonday, February 28th 2011 @ 1:39 AM (not yet rated) |
The break out Real Housewife Star, Bethenny Frankel, is gearing up for her second season of her own reality show!! Bethenny Frankel's show begins airing Monday, February 28th, on Bravo at 10:00 pm. Bethenny reminded fans to change their DVR settings to the new name "Bethenny Ever After" noting that the name had changed from season one "Bethenny Getting Married".
There is no mistaking that Bethenny Frankel became a fan favorite and Bravo jumped on the bandwagon. Bethenny's one-liners and no holds bar approach helped established her as a reality fan favorite. She was seen by fans as honest. They might not have always agreed with her but at least they felt she was 'keeping it real'. At times, I found it interesting that Bethenny could manage to say hurtful things about her cast mates and yet fans seemed quite alright with her statements.
It seemed that Bethenny could dish about her cast mates and the fans didn't care but when the other housewives attempted to behave in the same manner they were met with resistance. I think it was Bethenny's approach in attacking and the way she handled fans that allowed her such latitude.
Bethenny has won fans over with her self deprecating manner. Her willingness to make fun and/or even be harsh about herself at times has enabled Bethenny to be harsh about others. I am not sure I feel that gives a person 'a pass' to be hurtful to others but it does seem to work for the fans. We are all entitled to our opinions. In addition, Bethenny Frankel handles the housewives/reality fans well. She completely ignores, what the other housewives have labeled 'haters' and instead, Bethenny interacts with positive fans. But, make no mistake her interaction includes a lot of selling of her products. Bethenny Frankel has BRANDED herself well! Look closely at her timeline on Twitter. Bethenny does it beautifully. She is always telling her fans they are the best. She states that she loves them and then gives them personal updates BUT in between or even in the same TWEET/breath she names her products. Let's face it, Bethenny Frankel markets well!!! I am impressed by Bethenny Frankel's marketing skills. I think she benefitted from her situation and has made a great deal of money from being on a reality show. I think that is smart and savy.
Onto, my opinion as to where Bethenny Frankel is heading. Bethenny wants out of reality television. Her husband can't stand it. Bethenny's problem lies in the fact that she enjoys the spotlight along with the fact that her BRAND relies on her being in the spotlight. Bethenny is her products. Which to a certain degree is problem.
Bethenny has a contract with Bravo and she will fulfill that contract but in the meantime she is shopping around for other media outlets. She has openly admitted she would like to have her own talk show. Bethenny knows she needs to remain in the public eye in order to keep her business alive. Let's face it, viewers are fickle. If Bethenny fades from television then will Skinnygirl margaritas and all her products. People don't buy those products because they think Bethenny has come up with the best way to get skinny. Hell no! They like Bethenny. Her fans buy her products! Nothing wrong with that except that when you want to leave the limelight you will lose some of your fan base and this will most likely hurt a fan based business.
Now, what is going on with Bethenny Frankel and The Real Housewives of New York City? In my opinion, I believe, a natural reaction to each other. Imagine for a moment that you are on the Real Housewives of New York City and you have to listen to bloggers and entertainment outlets speculate if your show can make it without the return of one housewife? Yeah, just imagining that makes me understand why the Real Housewives of New York City are claiming the show is even better and they are having a great time without Bethenny. Wouldn't you? Here is another way to look at the situation. Imagine where you work that one person leaves and everyone claims the business is going to go down in flames without that person? You wouldn't want that to happen, especially for job security purposes, right? Therefore, you would claim to everyone that the business is great and even better without that person and it is a good thing they left, right??
Now,Back to Real Housewives of New York City and Bethenny Frankel! I contend that Ramona Singer can't and shouldn't say, "Yeah, we suck without Bethenny." In a polite world tt would have been nice for the women to take the high road but that is not in their nature and Bethenny hasn't been very supportive of her old show either? It seems that Bethenny is throwing passive aggressive barbs and on the other hand, The Real Housewives of New York City are just being right out there with their remarks. Bethenny is careful because she has to walk the fine line with the fans because her fans are Real Houswives fans too. But, I have yet to see or read about Bethenny wishing her old castmates the best of luck?? I mean, Bethenny started on The Real Housewives of New York City and it is on Bravo? I would think she would take the high road and make more supportive statements but not a chance. Guess, she is 'keeping it real.' (LOL)
Which leads me to state why I have some problems with Bethenny Frankel and it has been noted by others that Bethenny has a habit of 'dropping' people that are no longer needed in her life. Lately, Bethenny has been putting down the Real Housewives franchises. She claims that the shows are unhealthy. Bethenny has insinuated that they are scripted. She also stated that Jason, her husband, can't stand the shows and he did not like the women on New York City. Therefore, Jason did not want to be a part of The Real Housewives of New York City. I don't know about you but I can remember a time when Bethenny claimed she loved the Real Housewives and she watched the other franchises?? Now listen, I understand the need to be on the same page with your husband. I have been married for 23 years but I guess I have been blessed because my husband would never stop me from watching a show I liked or working on something that I find important and/or that I enjoyed. I mean, to be honest, Bethenny is lucky that we don't have to agree to watch the same shows because like her husband, my husband thinks reality television should be banned (LOL) and he thinks the Real Housewives are among the worst of the worst in reality television. Oh, and how he makes fun of Bravo like crazy. But, when I was watching 'Bethenny Getting Married' he said, "God, I never thought I would say this but I much rather you have on one of those "Housewives" shows rather than this crap. I mean they actually gave that whiny bitch a show?" Sorry, I know some of you love Bethenny but my husband can't stand Bethenny Frankel and he thinks that she is a manipulative, whiny bitch whom he doesn't find funny at all. My husband teases me all the time that he knows way too much about the reality characters because I chitchat with him about them but then again I know way too much about sports and players for the exact same reason. (LOL)
My ultimate point. I enjoy Bethenny and I watch her. Meaning, I laugh my husband off.
In the end, Bethenny Frankel needs to remember her roots and be careful the bridges she burns. It is clear she feels she doesn't need the women on Real Housewives of New York City and she doesn't need 'the women' but she still needs the reality fans. I believe that Bethenny might want to watch her words because the reality fans are intelligent and as she continues to put the housewives down it might cost her viewers. I enjoy the Real Housewives and I don't like that Bethenny seems to insinuate that she is now better than them. At one time she was a 'Housewife' and it was the viewers of The Real Housewives of New York City that elevated her. Therefore, even though Bethenny tweets and seems all lovey with her fans her disdain for reality television can only make me wonder what she really thinks about her fans?? Call me cynical but in my opinion, Bethenny Frankel isn't as 'real' as she proclaims. I think she has her motives and her actions are planned and well thought out. This is helpful for an ambitious person but can be detrimental in one's personal life and in my opinion it doesn't always make one genuine.
