Well The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection has ended! Are you sad?? I am not sad it ended. I can't say that I am glad, no, just ambivalent. I didn't dislike the show but I didn't love it. I watched the The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection here and there. I definitely did not record the show nor did I watch it when a new episode aired (unless nothing else was going on). I typically caught The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection on the days that Bravo would run a marathon and even then I missed several episodes. So, why was I not drawn to this show?? I am just not sure. I do know one thing, I had high hopes for The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection. See, I love Project Runway and I was hoping that this show would come close but it didn't.
Surprisingly, I like a lot of things about the show but yet the feel and vibe just couldn't come together for me. For instance, I like the judges. I think Iman is great!! I enjoyed Isaac Mizrahi mentoring but maybe that was part of the problem?? Isaac mentoring and judging?? Yeah, I think that was a bad idea. Laura Brown, she seems knowledgeable and yet her input was kept to a minimum. Well, really, all the judging was kept to a minimum. They had guest judges but all we heard from all judges was what they barked at the designers. We never saw any real judging. I felt we never really understood how the decision was made to axe the designer.
Now, the contestants. I am sure they have some talent but each of them seemed weak. Although, I am not sure if they really were weak or if part of the problem was the setup of the show?? The idea of fashion houses and them working together to create a runway show just didn't work for me. Overall, I think that is where I felt lost every week.
In the end, The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection had too many knock off scenarios that reminded me of a Project Runway episode and unfortunately The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection came up looking cheap. The scenario fell flat and the designers came up short!!
The Finale! Wow, it was boring. It just lacked pressure. Calvin was done in no time and creating a look for fun?? Honestly, I had no idea why they needed help for the last look and we never really saw the designers, DESIGN. We just watched them sew, right?? Oh, well!
Oh, and in my opinion I thought Calvin's collection was much better than the other two, Dominique and Jeffrey. I have no idea what they saw in Jeffrey's Collection, the winner?? I know I am 45 years old but would most women wear clothes with strings hanging off of them when they are dressed up?? Is that fashion forward?? Well, if so then I need to keep a few of my worn tops (LOL). No, I know that is not the same. Anyways, I just thought Jeffrey's clothes look unfinished and sloppy and yet they claimed it was innovative. I mean Laura Brown in her interview stated that her and Mary J Blige were going nuts over his collection. Now, that is stunning!
In the end, The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection did very little for me as a viewer. The challenges were stale, the designers were mediocre and the show setup was stolen to a certain degree. Bravo needs to revamp this show but I do hope they try to save it. The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection needs fresh ideas and polished!
