Tabatha's Salon Takeover: Mia Bella
Overall I enjoy Tabatha Coffey very much. I was trying to figure out why?? The show is pretty simple. It has a set formula. First,Tabatha 'surprises' the salon owners and they watch hidden footage. Second, she attempts to solve the problems in the Salon. Third, is a makeover and reveal. On the day of the reveal the salon has a grand opening and Tabatha discusses with the owner final suggestions and hands the keys back to the owner. At that point Tabatha hopes the owner and employees have changed along with the salon makeover. Fourth, six weeks later she checks in to see if the changes of the one week takeover are still in place and that is it. The show ends with either the Salon sticking with Tabatha's suggestions or blowing them off. Now, the six week checkup is a good idea because studies have shown that if you do something for a month it is easier for it to become a habit. Therefore, a six week checkup is a good time frame to check on a Salon.
Anyways, I believe the reason I like Tabatha's Salon Takeover and Tabatha Coffey is because at the heart of the show is TEACHING and HELPING. Of course, to be successful in REALITY television Bravo has to find outrageous Salons. This makes sense. As viewers, we like to see the most MESSED up people and we like to see them either TURN themselves around or if not then make fools of themselves. Us, humans, we are not picky!! Shame on us!! (LOL)
BUT, the difference with Tabatha Coffey THAN many other REALITY CELEBRITIES is she actually knows her shit. Tabatha has years of experience in her field. She is an expert hairdresser and she is a SUCCESSFUL Salon owner. In other words, she has the credentials to back her up.
Another thing, Tabatha doesn't scream at the owners and staff to succeed. Yes, at times she gets frustrated and angry but even then you can see that she continues to try to figure out a way to REACH the person.
See, I am a teacher at heart. That is my background. I have my Masters in Education and deep down Tabatha is an educator. Tabatha Coffey struggles to teach hair styling skills and with the owners business skills too. Tabatha has learned that sometimes you have to dig deep with people to find their stumbling blocks before they can really hear the message and learn!!!
Tabatha's first episode of season three did not disappoint. There were a few changes. Tabatha didn't spend much time with the staff. This episode was family centered but the FOUR SISTERS were the problem.
So,Tabatha stepped into a filthy salon, like usual. Honestly, most of the salons she enters are filthy but Tabatha got to the root of the problem. Family drama. Tabatha went to the family home and worked on the FAMILY drama. Of course we were all delighted by Tabatha dressing in pink pajamas!! Too funny!! Once, morning came she surprised the four sisters and had them work together to clean up the family's home basement. Also, Tabatha took the time to discuss with all four sisters their roles and responsibilities. Of course, it helps that Tabatha uses her connections to also drive her points home. She had two brothers that own a famous salon that the girls admire explain how they have made their business successful and how they have kept family issues away from work. Therefore, it isn't just Tabatha preaching. She brings in support and backup!!!
In the end, Tabatha has a success story on her hands and she started the season off with a Salon that you could tell Tabatha enjoyed. She liked the four sisters and she wanted them to succeed. This is not always how Tabatha feels about the owners.
Overall, I liked the episode because I like Tabatha but I missed the interaction with the staff and more involvement in the Salon. I understand why this was so family driven but I still like the hairstyling scenes and they were cut (no pun intended) because of the sleepover and pink jammies (LOL)!! I think we got a little bit of a softball for an opening episode with the promise of more tougher Salons to come!!! I can't wait!!!
