I am calling this the NO SURPRISE episode! Honestly, were you surprised about anything that unfolded??? Yeah, I didn't think so, me either. I want to state up front, over all I love Project Runway. There is something about it. It is like an old shoe. Comfortable. You know it. You understand it. You have figured it out and it is comforting. Just, like an old shoe, comfortable and even though you know you should get something new you just don't because you like that it is all broken in and comfortable.
Project Runway is all broken in and comfortable. We expect twist and turns. We love Tim Gunn and his "Make it work". But, have you noticed? Tim Gunn is sick of his catch phrase and he hasn't said it all that much. The problem is for everything we love and expect this also means it is getting a little stale. Oh, I know it is hard for us Project Runway lovers to admit such a thing.
Indulge me for a moment while I share a personal story with you. My husband, who very rarely watches a Reality show with me, will usually ask questions and get caught up in the show if he sticks around long enough. Well, I am sorry to say while viewing Project Runway my husband fell asleep. I mean the Real Housewives..... or Jersey Shore keep his interest better which is funny because he prefers a competition show, it is closer to a sports game. He said, "Oh, my gosh, this is boring, I can tell you who is going home and who is winning and worse I don't care."
Get my drift about being a little stale?
Anyways, back to the episode at hand. Bridesmaid dresses. I think we all can agree they are horrible. I must say I thought it was a decent challenge. Take a shitty dress and work with a client!!! I wasn't overly impressed with the "Oh, we are going to display your dress at a function and have people vote" twist but I guess they were trying to throw all the designing elements at them at once. Trying to get the designers to understand you don't design for yourself. You design for clients and the public.
April needs to understand that the judges expect her to keep a client happy and sell her shit. It would be nice in life to design just what you like but in the 'real world' if it doesn't sell then it doesn't matter. "Yes, April you need to be true to yourself but you can't win $100,000 and be in Marie Claire if you won't think of the public. That is the 'real world', honey!"
Okay, so the designers get their dresses and clients and Michael Drummond does his best to just complain about the dress and then finally admits that his clients size is throwing him for a loop. That is the problem with designers, they design for size 0. Tim Gunn said Size 6. Yeah, right, not one of the models they use is a size 6!!! Real women have hips, curves, bottoms and such. These designers create dresses, slacks, shorts and tops that fit size 0 and no wonder US poor women have such complexes!! Well, we all knew Michael Drummond was going to be on the bottom, right???
Valarie, we knew she was going to be in the bottom. We all could feel her lack of inspiration and her, "God, I just don't know how to make this work" feeling!
Peach, was the ultimate. Yes, every week we have watched her struggle, so we knew she would be back in the bottom. We saw it coming a mile a way. Then when we actually saw the dress, did we even have to stay awake?
The pattern is becoming the designer that struggles and can't get the motivation ends up in the bottom!
Other business this week was to make US tolerate Gretchen. I guess we are suppose to say, "Okay, Gretchen has been knocked down a peg or two and she seems to have figured out her place so let's give her a second chance." Bullshit!
Gretchen, got scared and pissed all at the same time. She knew she pissed Tim Gunn off and that was probably not a good way to start. Gretchen saved face by claiming that Tim just didn't really know her and that her intentions were good and now she is going to be focused and all business. Oh, and she is going to use Tim as a mentor. Right! Who believes that bullshit???
Next up to examine is Ivy! Oh, my gosh, the girl is a big fat cry baby. Here is the deal. "I don't give shit if Michael C tried to sabotage your dress. Such is life bitch. You don't go after someone who has immunity and you know will be around. DAH???"
Did she think Michael C would appreciate the lazy and ignorant comment??? Yes, the others said shit too. Yes, it upset him but Ivy went a step further and called him cruel names. Guess what Ivy, put onl your big girl panties and take the shit back when you dish it. I can't stand it people. If you attack someone, in any way shape or form you better be prepared for an attack back. Ivy didn't take the high road. Therefore, Ivy should not expect Michael C to take the high road with her.
Now, how many of you felt sorry for Mondo??? C'mon raise your hands!!! How many of you knew it was going to be Michael C. and it was not suspenseful at all? Yeah, about as suspenseful as who will go home, Peach or Michael Drummond?? No suspense last night.
Mondo's dress was good and we all know why the public liked it but I have to admit Michael C's dress was better. It was innovative and the public has trouble with such style. Now, all the bullshit about hair and such. Oh, my gosh, is this new?? Or have they always been into all this hair and accessory stuff?? Is this why they extended it a half hour? We just never realized that the entire package was judged?!?! I must admit I disagreed with judges assessment about Mondo's styling of his model. I got exactly what Mondo was trying to do and I liked the look. It was retro chic. In my humble opinion. Unfortunately, Michael C's was just a tad bit better and that is life. Oh, and yeah, the designers in the back, I kind of loved the big FU he was able to give them because really in the end that is the best way to get even. Do you work and win. Oh and Ivy can't bitch because Michael C's dress did not win with the public, Mondo's did and for her to bitch would mean that he sabotaged her dress but somehow Mondo won and then how would she explain the judges picking Michael C.
"Ivy, honey, you are looking like a little jealous bitch"
Oh, and we can't forget to mention that Gretchen once again informed us that she would wear her outfit. GOOD. FOR. YOU. But Gretchen, will the rest of us????
The judges didn't really inspire me with any wonderful remarks. Heidi seemed to have taken some happy pills. She seemed to be a little gentler. Oh, and we all know by now she loves to say CASANOVA. The guest judge actually contributed inciteful comments at the moment. Unfortunately, nothing to great I can't quote a darn thing (LOL) but I found it funny that they had a judge that was putting out a bridesmaid dress line?? I mean the entire show was a put down on bridesmaid dresses?!?! I guess we are to assume her line is outstanding? If so, then who does she design for because no one ever seems to end up in a pretty bridesmaid dress?
Well, that sums up Project Runway this week. What did you love about the episode? What did you hate??
